Meet Rajalakshmi Nambi, Owner of Nambi Family Childcare in Mountain House

Describe your business

Nambi Family Childcare provides a preschool and an after-school program. I have created a separate activity-based curriculum for both programs. A small group of 6-8 kids comes for the preschool program, thus the curriculum is designed for them. The curriculum develops motor, sensory, and social skills and teaches kids how to work together. Students also learn their manners, which they practice using in their daily life. We also offer a specialized reading program that improves kids’ imagination, vocabulary, and reading skills. After completing the provided reading log, students earn prizes. This motivates them to keep reading. Students enrolled in the after-school program visit the Public Library every Friday and check out a few books that interest them. Both programs involve a daily gardening routine. Each kid has their own garden and they tend to it daily. This brings them closer to nature. I provide weekly themes and monthly fliers. Parents are always welcome to discuss their kids’ progress and schedules with me.

Where are you originally from?

I am originally from India.

What made you decide to open this business?

When my daughters were young, I used to volunteer at their school and at the public library. I liked working with the young kids there and learned how to motivate them. My experience with kids and families led me to open up Nambi Family Childcare.

How did you get started?

Before starting this business, I used to tutor elementary and middle school students. After completing the necessary courses and certifications, I got my childcare license in Pleasanton, 2020. Soon after, I moved to Mountain House in 2021, and reopened in 2021.

Why did you choose this profession?

Teaching is my passion. Working with kids, I found out that I learn just as much from them as they learn from me. When I am working with kids, it motivates my skills in different ways. I enjoy working with young kids.

What drives you to do what you do? What motivates you?

My motivation has always been kids. I help them enhance their skills. Getting feedback and support from the kids and their parents strives me to do more.

What was it like when you first started?

When I first started, I was ecstatic. But, I wondered how I will get support and how I can do things in a mannered way. I had to design a curriculum that customizes itself depending on each kid’s strengths and weaknesses. Every parent appreciated the way I created each child’s curriculum in the end.

What would your customers say they love most about your business?

I have received tons of feedback from parents saying that they love that their kids are showing improvements at home. They were delighted to see that their kids were learning many skills and showing positive changes.

What were the factors that made you choose this neighborhood?

Mountain House is a close-knit community and a beautiful neighborhood. I admire how everyone supports one another like family. I love the location and the close community allows kids to communicate and get to know one another. It is easy for kids to make friends.

What is the best way for customers to contact you?

Customers can always contact me by calling/messaging me at 925-577-9795
