Meet Victor Solis, Principal and Franchise of Morrison Property Inspections

Meet Victor Solis, Principle and Franchinse of Morrison Property Inspections

Describe your business

Morrison Property Inspections is a home inspection business usually for realtors to make sure everything is good to move into buying or selling contracts.

Where are you originally from?

I am originally from San Francisco.

What made you decide to open this business?

I was doing house flipping in the early 2000s with my brother-in-law and seeing how the industry works. It was a no-brainer to do house inspections, so it was a natural progression.

How did you get started?

I was looking for a franchise to purchase, so I looked at Morrison’s inspection, went down to LA, got trained on how they did their processing, and went back to Norcal to set everything up.

Why did you choose this profession?

I chose this profession because I like it a lot. I like the construction and houses. I would always help fix homes so they could get flipped. I like everything about the house progression, and I like how it finishes. It is easy to go into

What drives you to do what you do? What motivates you?

What motivates me is being able to get the people’s inspections. When you go into, so you aren’t scared to spend money and work. Yes, your house is good, you need this. Selling, you can get ahead of it and fixed. It’s not surprising. It’s going to fix when they have potential buyers In the home.

What has surprised you most when owning a business?

What has surprised me the most is how important an inspection actually is. It makes complete sense when getting into the industry and needing someone to protect their investment.

What was it like when you first started?

It was scary when I first started. As an inspector, you must ensure you see and catch everything and tell clients without backing out or making them scared. Suppose you have something dangerous, you must tell them without freaking them out. It depends on how you tell them if it is a problem and can be fixed.

What is something most people don’t know about the business?

Most people need to learn the way houses are constructed. There are certain things we have to point out. We aren’t a coat inspection. We look at the general home altogether.

What would your customers say they love most about your business?

Customers would love that I’m very thorough and fast. I ensure I cover everything and get it to you the same night they are done. I am open to any questions after the inspection, and I am happy to review them with them.

What are some odd requests you’ve had from clients?

Not very odd, but sometimes clients do not realize how bad the foundation can be. If the foundation is bad, animals could be going underneath the house. It can be hard to tell them to get it done quickly, and they don’t realize how bad it is.

What are your goals over the next year?

My goals over the next year are to grow the business to get twice the amount of business to serve the real estate community and have a full day every day.

What are your greatest challenges?

It is hard to tell a customer what is wrong with a house, especially if it’s something important, without scaring them. It can be hard to say cause it is expensive, and you do not want to alarm them. I leave it up to the agent. You have to be careful with the words you use.

What is something most people don’t know about you?

People do not know that I am a good inspector. It is tough being the only one vs. a big company. I have a team in Socal, but in Norcal, I am just by myself.

What are some of the highest highs you’ve had in life so far?

My highest highs were when my kids were born, of course.

What are some of the lowest lows you’ve had in life so far? And what got you through it?

Some of the lowest lows have been deaths. I had five deaths last year; 2 cousins, my father, my uncle, and my brother-in-law. Last year was a challenging year.

What is your most memorable customer experience?

Memorable customer experiences are when they show you everything and understand what you are going through. A lot of times, they are nice to you and offer you water and stuff and basically be your friend, which is a nice thing to do.

What else do you do besides work?

Besides work, I like to relax with my family and go on vacation times every chance I get.

What is the best way for customers to contact you?

Who from your childhood had the biggest impact on you? And what did that person teach you?

My father had the most significant impact on my childhood. He taught me to be orderly and not be lazy, work hard, go above and beyond and torture myself into doing too much. That’s how you get recommendations.

What’s one memory from your childhood that stands out to you?

One memory that stands out from my childhood was playing outside my house daily. It is the kind of thing that you do not see anymore.

What does the future hold for you?

The future holds a lot of good health and prosperous business.

If a young person asked you for advice on how to live their life, what would you tell them?

If a young person asked me for advice on how to live their life, I would tell them to save money, listen to their parents and be nice to others.

When your life is over, how do you want to be remembered?

When my life is over, I hope I get a lot of love, and people remember how I was and laugh about it and have a party.
